My name is TJ Baxter I am a resident of North Bonneville Washington. I am working on a persuasive speech to present to the North Bonneville City Council on allowing the use of golf carts on the disc golf course. Let me start by saying that all of us will be seniors one day or develop a disability that may limit the amount that we can walk. This ordinance would permit the use of a golf cart after purchasing a annual permit from the city and signing a waiver releasing all risk from the city.

I would appreciate feed back on this and support from the disc golf community to help North Bonneville set a standard for elderly and disabled access to our wonderful sport of disc golf. If any of you frequent the PDGA website you are aware that they have established a Senior Committee to help spread the word of disc golf to the elderly community and bring more people into our sport. Please contact me with your thoughts and concerns my email is baxtertj@hotmail.com And remember one day you will be old too and may require assistance to make it through 18 holes of disc golf.

    Thank You For Your Time

    Hi TJ,
The paved pathways throughout North Bonneville were designed to be used by pedestrians, bikes & golf carts so as long as the golf carts stay on the pathways it is OK to use them to play disc golf here.
An annual permit is required to operate a golf cart on the pathways as is proof of liability insurance. The permit costs $10 per year.
Golf carts are not allowed off the pathways as they cause damage to the grass (fairways to us disc golfers).
Speaking as a resident of North Bonneville & an ardent disc golfer, I’m not a fan of golf carts being allowed off the pathways for a number of reasons, wear & tear on the fairways & the potential for accidents being two of the biggest.
Be that as it may, you are welcome to appear before the City Council to state your case. We meet on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of every month. You can email me to be put the agenda whenever you are ready.

Thanks so much for your input its very much appreciated. I will let you know when I am ready to present to the council, I am currently doing my research on the issue and am working with the disc golf community to get valuable feed back just like you provided me with.

Your concerns are very valid and it makes me think that the ordinance might get more support from people with your concerns if it has a clause that requires the user to contain a handicap endorcement from the state. My main goal in passing this ordinance is to allow elderly and disabled people the ability to use their carts to enjoy the course. The issue of damage to the grass has been addressed in my proposal (use of 90 degree rule, slick tires designed to not harm turf).

The permit would be an additional permit required for users on top of their standard permit. This addresses the issue of having to double inspect carts.

I will keep you posted on my progress and truly appreciate your thoughts

    THANK YOU
    TJ Baxter
